We provide 24 hour, 7 day a week phone answering services for questions which you may have outside of business hours.
Availability:
In general, it is our goal to offer appointments within one week. For urgent referrals, we make every effort to provide appointments within one to two business days.
Colonoscopies for the screening of colon cancer are one of the most common procedures that Dr. Schroeder preforms. The purpose of colonoscopies is to identify noncancerous collections of tissue called polyps, and remove them, before they turn into cancer. The most important quality indicator for colonoscopies is the adenoma detection rate (ADR). This is a measure of how often polyps are identified in a given colonoscopy. The higher your endoscopist’s ADR, the more reduced your risk for developing colon cancer. The national benchmark for ADR is 25%, Dr. Schroeder’s ADR when recently measured was greater than 60%.
Cancer
Dr. Schroeder participates with the tumor board at Morrison Cancer Center. The tumor board consists of doctors from multiple specialties including pathologists, oncologists, surgeons, and radiologists. Together, these doctors review the information about each patient’s cancer. The tumor board provides multiple doctors from different specialties to create a plan of care based on the most up to date guidelines.
He has a special interest in cancer of the colon and is involved in the Enhanced Recovery Protocol for colon cancer. He has been involved in local quality improvement projects for the prevention of colon cancer.
Scholarly Activity
In order to maintain information regarding the most op to date services in patient care, Dr. Schroeder has on multiple occasions attended the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress. He has presented his research about patient comfort during colonoscopies at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He also acts as a reviewer for scientific journals.
Community
Dr. Schroeder has a special interest in medical education and is a strong advocate of recruitment for rural medicine. He is the site director for the University of Nebraska Medical Center general surgery resident rotation at Mary Lanning Healthcare. He acts as preceptor for medical students and physician assistant students, and also participates in medical education projects for students from grade school through college. Dr. Schroeder has always strived to gain new insight and knowledge to better serve his patients. He believes that the process of learning new techniques affords him a wide range of expertise to push his practice to the forefront of the surgical arena.
